An Operating System is the fundamental software that controls a computer. It handles the way your hardware functions, the communication with peripherals for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between the installed applications, along with the prioritization of apps when multiple ones run simultaneously. Any program that is installed on a notebook or a desktop works by sending requests to the OS for different services via an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be done via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting field, the Operating System is what runs a web hosting server together with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. When there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Web Hosting

If you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a wider choice with regard to the system environment on your machine as different applications could have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and safe Internet hosting service. Depending on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also update your OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
